HISTORY
The London Meteors softball club started back in 1988. It all began when Ralph Pitchford came back from a holiday in the States with a bat and ball. He and his colleagues went to Regents Park and had so much fun they decided to start a work team. Their boss then agreed to sponsor them the cost of a uniform, so they called themselves “Millions” after the name of the company. A couple of years later they left the Millions company and consequently lost their sponsorship. They now had too many players for just one team so decided to start a second team. A new name was needed, so after much deliberation (and a few drinks), The London Meteors were born.
The London Mets Youth Baseball and Softball Club began in 1999 as the London Meteorites, a small programme for the under 10’s. The Club has grown into a multi-team programme that provides opportunities for young people from age 7 to 25 and has one of the largest schools programmes in the country with 2500 children participating in 2007. The youth club has also been successful on the field – the London Mets Pony team (under-16’s) were the 2007 BBF National Champions. The youth club has now expanded to operate three senior teams, the London Mets (AAA), the London Metros (AA) and the London Marauders (A). The London Mets won the BBF National Championship in 2007 and 2008. The London Mets Youth Baseball and Softball Club received the 2007 Haringey Sports Club of the Year award and were winners at the 2007 CCPR Sports Club of the Year awards.Softball achievements
